On the 13th and 14th June, Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG) hosted Magna Carta 800 – Night of Festivals.
The project raised awareness and promoted grass roots engagement with Magna Carta through an educational celebration event for residents and visitors to the city. The streets of Lincoln were brought to life during the Magna Carta 800th anniversary weekend and left a lasting legacy, ensuring Magna Carta is felt and understood across the city.
Funding from the Magna Carta 800th Anniversary Commemoration Committee ensured Lincoln BIG could work with ArtReach and other partners to draw on a multi – art form approach to programming high quality work combining carnival, live music, dance, public art, moving image, theatre, spoken word, visual and digital arts. This created significant opportunities for creative audience participation and engagement with young people around Magna Carta principles and the extent to which Magna Carta has influenced constitutional thinking both in the UK and internationally.
